This is an interesting question. CBD can actually enhance the effects of THC. There is a study associated with it. Some Australian researchers gathered 36 individuals. A few of those volunteers were regular users while others were infrequent consumers of marijuana.

The sample group was provided with different doses of vaporized marijuana to understand how different concentrations of THC and CBD affected the participants. Five different types of doses were tested:

  • A placebo,
  • exclusively THC (8mg),
  • exclusively high-CBD (400mg),
  • THC and low-CBD (8mg and 4mg, respectively), and
  • THC and high-CBD (12mg and 400mg, respectively)

Blood samples were regularly collected. Blood pressures were constantly monitored as well throughout the experiment. Specific tests were also conducted to analyze the intoxication levels of the participants.

CBD is by nature non-intoxicating and is associated with several potential health benefits. So, there is a preconceived notion that CBD would reduce the intoxicating effects, neutralize, and make it less severe. The researchers found otherwise.

One of the key findings of the study was the fact that participants who inhaled the low-CBD and THC variant felt more intoxicated than those who inhaled vaporized THC alone. This in turn shows that in low doses Cannabidiol might actually enhance the psychoactive effects of Tetrahydrocannabinol.

CBD, however, is capable of reducing the intoxicating effects of THC but only when consumed in a high concentration form.
